Hello all, once again l have a question about my Jetta. l have fixed all of the problems that were previously listed, much thanks to all of you, but l have another question. Ever since l had the alternator replaced, for some reason both front doors, no longer turn the interior light is on when you open them, and if l unlock the car but do not put the key in it resets the alarm because it does not sense that the door has been opened. This happens only with the front doors, if l open one of the back doors everything is fine. What could be causing my door lights not to come on?
dubdubious1 you make a very good point. The dealer mentioned to me something about the door locks. But what could cause both of the front ones to fail at the same time? l do not even get the chime or the door ajar light.

Possibly a blown fuse

It sounds as though it may need reset after the battery has been disconnected.

The alarm resetting itself if the doors are not opened is a factory feature. They did that incase the unlock button was accidently pushed.

As far as the lights not coming on. First, did someone turn the switch off at the dome light? If not, then there could be a blown fuse.

l have read ur question carefully & it sounds like both front door locks r bad. The door lock assembly contains a switch that tells the car when the door is open. When this goes bad it acts just like u described. Open the door & put the key in, there should be a door open light in the instrument cluster. This switch can not be bought separately & the whole lock mechanism has to be changed.

stranger things have happened. It might be possible that the passenger door lock has been bad for a while & u did not notice. Then when the drivers door went bad u took note & started checking all the doors.

If the doors lock/unlock when u hit the switch, u can be sure that the door locks r plugged in & powered up. There is nothing else l can think of that can cause this but plain ole bad locks.
