l had a slight deisel leak but this week there was a loud noise when l started the engine,black smoke and now judders all over when ticking over. it goes,starts but is noisier than usual.its a 13yr old land rover discovery.......what is blown!!??

It sounds to me like its just sucking air through where ever the diesel was leaking from, find the source of the leak repair it and try again. Hope this helps.

Pretty vague, but with a Disco could be anything from a split injector pipe to big end failure. They're prone to all sorts of problems - check under the bonnet for diesel spraying from a damaged pipe, check the expansion tank for pressure in case the head gasket is gone, etc., etc.

If you are getting unusual vibrations when cranking the engine to start it may be a worn motor mount. As far as the smoke a leaky injector could be the cause or worn valve seals which cause fuel to build up in the combustion chamber resulting in black smoke after start up.

It could be your timing belt has jumped a tooth, l would get it checked asap as to continue driving is to risk serious engine damage.

Easy. Take it to a diesel mechanic. Hell, tow it there so nothing does break. This is not something that can be advised accurately over the web. The noise they hear tells them something specific. Much faster and cheaper. That is, if the cost of repairs matters to you.
Otherwise put on the stereo louder and pedal to the metal.

l doubt that it is a timing belt that has jumped a tooth - the engine would only start with great difficulty in this case.

Also from what you are describing it cannot be a worn engine mount.

It does sound like your problem is with one of the injectors.
